Book Release: Chase (Resisting Love) by Chantal Fernando and Dawn Martens

Welcome to our stop on the Chase Blog Tour!!  We have the pleasure of Chantal and Dawn's company so scroll down and check out our interview with them, along with Tami's review.  While you're at it, enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post!

Moving in with a guy you only met once? Stupid.

But for student Layla Crawford, this was reality.

Chase Jackson is a renowned playboy and self professed commitment phobe, that is until he meets Layla.

Blinded by his intensity to have her, Chase will stop at nothing to make her his.

With a jealous ex and old conquests repeatedly making appearances, Chase' s skeletons come out of the closet one by one, each one pushing Layla further and further away.

Layla is determined to keep her distance. Chase now has to convince the only woman he has ever wanted that he is worth the gamble.

Chantal, Dawn - welcome to Into the Night Reviews and thanks for taking the time to chat with us.
Let's start with who is your character inspiration for Chase?

Chantal: Chase is my idea of the perfect alpha male. In looks and personality. I mean who doesn’t love a confident, possessive, bad ass man who turns into someone completely different only for you?

Dawn: Chase was really all Chantal’s idea. Personally I see him as two of Kristen Ashley’s men. Tate Jackson and Chase Keaton.  I know it’s not what Chantal thought of, but dudes, come on. If you read KA, that’s who you’re gonna think of.

Describe each other in three words

Chantal: Dawn is crazy, honest and VERY giving.

Dawn: Chantal is very sweet, kind, and just simply amazing.

What was your most memorable ‘author’ moment while writing Chase?

Chantal: I’d have to say the first chapter. I wrote it out myself and sent it to Dawn. When she read it she got very excited, and in turn, got me excited.

Dawn: While writing, hmm, when I cried at our own shit. No joke, literally cried.

What are the “must have’s” for you both when you’re writing?

Chantal: To be honest, I just write and let the story flow. I worry about all the other stuff afterwards. The characters end up doing whatever they please, as crazy as that sounds.

Dawn: To take a break if you don’t have anything. No point in writing a piece of shit, may as well wait until an idea comes and go with it.

What would you say was the biggest challenge of co-authoring a book?

Chantal: We don’t always agree on everything. So we have learnt the art of compromise J

Dawn: Compromise, I suck at that, I don’t even do it with hubby, laughs, but with Chantal, she’s amazing, she reigns in my crazy, and I add some crazy to her. It’s great.

Is there another book in the pipeline?

Chantal: Yes we are currently working on Kade. Ryder will get his own book, as will James.

Dawn: Kade is next bitches ;) Nikki is so gonna put him through the ringer, and I already have written out a heart breaking scene for them.. ahh, so good baby. So good.

Ooh I'm looking forward to that!!  So who are some of your favourite authors/books?

Chantal: Anything by Kristen Ashley. ANYTHING. I also love J.R Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon. In fact, my youngest son’s first name is Acheron. I know, I’m a nerd.

Dawn: Everything by Kristen Ashley, that woman, ugh, fuck, she is something. Another favourite is Madeline Sheehan, no one can write fucked up like her.

What would you say is your ultimate guilty pleasure?

Chantal: Hmmm romance novels that lead towards being erotic.

Dawn: Porn. No, I’m serious, porn, Book porn to be precise.

If you were castaway on a remote tropical island what three things would you have to have with you to survive?

Chantal: Well, food and water of course. I’m cheating and using that as one thing, lol. My kindle with a never ending battery and an alpha male to take care of me ;)

Dawn: Kindle, booze, and a vibrator. I could probably scrounge up food and water from the island, so these things would have to be packed away with me if I ever got stranded.  ;)

I'm thinking that would be one interesting island to be castaway on!  Thanks for the insights girls.  Good luck with Chase!

3.5 out of 5 stars

From the outset I need to say that I really enjoyed reading Chase.  It was an easy read with some outstanding Alpha male characters that will hit book boyfriend lists aplenty – particularly Kade I think!
Chase (Resisting Love #1) is the story of Layla and Chase.  Layla is a pretty innocent girl, looking for somewhere to live that is close to University and not close to her parent’s home.  Having looked at a number of not so appropriate places she arrives at the last place on her list and cannot believe her luck.  The house is gorgeous, as is the guy who shows her around (James) and despite having some reservations about sharing a house with men (two of whom she hasn’t yet met), she takes the room.  Flash forward a short while and Layla is hitting it off beautifully (in a brother/sister kind of way) with James and Kade, two of the three men in the house, but she is yet to meet the third.  She’s heard exchanges between him and the women he’s brought home, but not actually met him.  Layla heads out for a girls night out with best friend Nikki and meets Chase, uber gorgeous and with clear intentions for Layla.  Imagine her surprise when she wakes in his bed the next morning ... in the master bedroom of the house she is living in!

Despite enjoying this book I wasn’t really convinced by or connected to Chase – his adoration of Layla seemed instant and it was a little hard to believe that he would be able to quickly change his womanising ways.  Some of the back story was clarified later in the book, but it felt a little unreal to start with.  I think this affected the way I felt about Chase throughout the story and meant that I didn’t find him or his interactions with Layla that believable.  Having said that, he did redeem himself a little bit towards the end of the book – but I was never really cheering for him.
Layla on the other hand I loved.  She was sassy and held her own in the interactions with Kade and James.  Chase dominated her a bit too much for my liking – but that was more about his style than any real weakness in her.

The other characters in the story were fantastic.  James, Kade and Nikki particularly.  There was enough going on with them that you want to know more – and we’re fortunate because Fernando and Martens are working on Kade and Nikki’s story next, which I will certainly be watching for.  Aubrey is the ex from hell – incredibly nasty and manipulative but brings some interesting twists to the story.
I enjoyed reading Chase and as I said will be watching for the next book.  It was a quick and easy read.  The edition I was provided for this review did have a number of typo’s in it, which detracted a little from the story, and is part of the reason for my 3.5 (rather than 4) rating.  Despite being part of a series Chase and Layla’s story was wrapped up beautifully, so don’t avoid this for fear of a cliff hanger.

I drink too much, Swear too much, and Read too much. I don't have a filter, and I tend to speak before I think.

I live in Alberta Canada.  I have an amazing pain in the ass husband, and two little girls.
I have a huge love of reading. I've been a beta reader, and helped a few authors edit. On top of those things, because I don't plan to give them up, I figured it was time to take the leap and write a book.
It wouldn't be possible without my girl Chantal!!!
